Sindile(Sindz)Mavundla is the Founder and Managing Director of Khaltsha Cycles, a one-stop bicycle shop with an aim to inspire and create cycling townships by providing quality affordable bicycles. The vision of the Khaltsha Cycles is to increase ridership through social events, promote cycling mobility and advocate for safe cycling.
What are your plans as Bicycle Mayor?
My focus for my term as Cape Town Bicycle Mayor will be to build on the great work done by Lebogang Mokwena the first Bicycle Mayor of Cape Town by scaling up the Learn2Cycle classes and making them more accessible to other communities. To support the growth of cycling access to quality affordable bicycles is key hence I plan to replicate the community bike shop model we established in Khayelitsha with great success in increased ridership, bicycle repairs, access to bicycles and economic benefit of cycling in communities. Lastly, my focus will include bringing together the private sector to adopt the Bike2Work programme and lobby the city of Cape Town to speedily invest in cycling infrastructure and law enforcement on current existing cycling infrastructure, especially in the Cape Town CBD Bree Street and Lower Main road Woodstock.
