Simone Markl

About me:

I represent a new generation of mobility changemakers: As a former competitive cyclist, a mother of an 8-year-old son, and shaped by my roots in a large cycling family, I am tireless in my commitment to bringing everyday movement back into children’s lives through cycling. I want to reintroduce children to the idea that riding a bike is a natural part of daily life and challenge the common German misconception that children should not cycle to school. I am pragmatic in execution and authentic in my values.

With BiciBus, I am driving a movement that goes far beyond cycling — towards greater participation, health, and community in everyday family life. I bring people together, overcome bureaucratic hurdles and create practical solutions where others are still debating.

My plans for the term:

As Bicycle Mayor of Frankfurt I will focus on making cycling a natural and safe part of everyday life for children and families. I will expand initiatives like the BiciBus, connect schools and communities, and create practical learning spaces where children can build confidence on the bike. By working closely with the city, local organizations, and partners, I aim to turn ideas into visible, scalable solutions across districts. My approach is hands-on, inclusive, and impact-driven and bringing real change to the streets of Frankfurt.
