About Lori

Lori is a social entrepreneur with a passion for cycling as a transformative tool for healthier, better-connected people and for stronger, friendlier and greener cities. For more than 15 years, she has been an advocate for transportation equity, respect and safe spaces for everyday cycling in a proudly self-proclaimed ‘car town’. She kick-started and managed Bike Windsor Essex as the leading voice for cycling advocacy in Windsor-Essex. She founded the region’s only non-profit community bike shop in 2016, which continues to serve the community with free workshops, DIY space, affordable refurbished bikes and free space for community programming.

Lori developed the region’s only cycling education program, delivering programming to hundreds of children in 8 municipalities. She introduced bike valets to regional events, organises and leads local bike tours, and delivers presentations at conferences about how the bicycle is a transformational tool for stronger cities. Her proudest achievement was successfully making the business case for the inclusion of a multi-use trail on the Gordie Howe International Bridge that will connect Windsor, Ontario, Canada, to Detroit, Michigan, U.S.A., opening in 2026

The Plan for the Mandate

As Bicycle Mayor, Lori will continue to advocate for safer streets by encouraging reduced speed limits on residential roads, implementing cycling infrastructure with physical barriers, increasing bike parking, and clearly marking roadways at intersections to guide all users safely. She will also keep inspiring people to choose the bicycle over the car for short trips and will work to connect communities through fun events that link cycling with broader issues such as the environment, public transit, tree cover, and transportation equity.
