Jacki Patrickson

I am a Chartered Civil Engineer and a volunteer ride leader and coach with British Cycling. What I enjoy most is introducing people to the freedom and joy of active travel, whether that’s commuting through Durham City, exploring the surrounding countryside, or simply gaining the confidence to get on a bike.

WHAT IS THE NEXT STEP FOR YOU NOW THAT YOU ARE THE BICYCLE MAYOR?

Over the coming years, I want to focus on encouraging more children to cycle (and actively travel) to school. Giving young people the confidence and opportunity to move independently is powerful, not only for their health but for their sense of freedom and connection to their community.

I also want to inspire more adults to choose cycling, whether for commuting, everyday journeys, or leisure. Durham City and the wider County have so much potential to support active travel, and I believe many more people would cycle if they felt confident and safe.

Finally, I am committed to raising the profile of cycling and cyclists within Durham City. Cycling should be seen as a normal and valued way to travel. By increasing awareness and participation, I hope this momentum will also contribute to continued improvements in cycling infrastructure, making it easier and safer for everyone to ride.
