Shreya Gadepalli has been a practitioner and learner of urban mobility planning for 25 years and is regarded as one of the foremost urban mobility experts in India. She leads UrbanWorks, a non-profit institute that works with government and non-government stakeholders to make cities work for everyone through cutting-edge research, compelling communication, and training that sticks.
Ms Gadepalli is the Founder Emeritus of the India Programme of the Institute for Transportation & Development Policy which she launched in the late 90s and built into an immensely impactful programme over the ensuing two decades. In this role, she guided dozens of cities in designing and implementing high-quality public transport systems and inclusive streets, as well as regulating motor vehicle use.
For a green recovery from COVID-19, Ms Gadepalli assisted the Smart Cities Mission of the Indian Government to conceptualise and launch three transformative national programmes—India Cycles4Change, Streets4People, and Transport4All—to reimagine mobility in over a hundred cities across India. Shreya Gadepalli’s work is a shining example of India’s National Urban Transport Policy in action—Moving People, Not Cars.
