Romee is a driven cycling enthusiast, born and raised in Amsterdam. With an academic background in interdisciplinary social science and urban planning at the University of Amsterdam, she integrates theoretical and practical knowledge about mobility and behavioural change.
At BYCS, Romee works as Project coördinator NL. Here, she joins the Dutch BYCS project team that focuses on developing, coordinating, and implementing Dutch projects that align with BYCS’ global mission to foster cycling culture and create safer, bike-friendly cities. This matches with her passion to positively impact communities and the environment. Combining her passion for cycling with advocacy for sustainable, inclusive, and accessible transport, she views herself as an activist driving social change through bicycles. With this attitude, she is the founder of the Bike Kitchen UvA: A do-it-yourself bike repair community place located at the University of Amsterdam, where knowledge about sustainability becomes tangible by creating a learning hub where people can learn how to repair bicycles themselves. This all started with building and repairing her own Bianchi racing bike, which she still loves to ride in her spare time.
Alongside her professional role, Romee is also the Bicycle Mayor of Amsterdam.
“As Bicycle Mayor of Amsterdam, I serve as an independent local ambassador for cycling, representing the interests and needs of their community while promoting the benefits of active mobility.
My mission as Bicycle Mayor of Amsterdam, is to amplify community voices and collaborate on grassroots solutions for urban challenges. How I want to achieve this, is by the following future goals:”
