Hello. In June 2020, I founded India Pedals along with few other cyclists in Nagpur City, a Citizen’s Movement to promote Cycling as a Way of Life in Nagpur City. We started organizing cycle rides every weekend to encourage people to do small distance cycling. We collaborated with Nagpur Police Department and other local Cycling Groups in the city and also organized Traffic Free Rides on weekends. I am also officially appointed as a collaborator with the Smart City Project of Nagpur City to help and advise with promotion of Cycling in Nagpur City.
Academically, I did my Medical Under-Graduate Degree from Indira Gandhi Medical College, Nagpur. Later on I did Masters in Public Health from Johns Hopkins School of Public Health, Maryland, USA. My thesis for Master’s in Public Health was on impact of urban environment on Human Health. I have work experience of working with leading consulting organizations like PricewaterhouseCoopers and Access Health International. I have worked as Chief Operating Officer for Save A Mother Foundation, which built my capacities as Leader and working with multiple stakeholders.
I amalso Director of Miles N Milers Endurance Sports Academy. I have motivated and trained hundreds of people to take up cycling as a way for fitness and life. I am also founder of India Pedals Citizens Movement in Nagpur to promote Cycling. I have organized more than 20 different fun cycle rides to promote cycling as a way of life. I have been advocating regarding promotion of cycling with different key authorities in Nagpur for last 2 years. I have also been Race Director for past 7 years for different marathons and cycling events and races in Nagpur City.
Apart from above, i have done several competitive cycling events such as Race Across America, Red Bull Trans-Siberian Extreme, and Ride Across India.
What are your plans as Bicycle Mayor?
During my term, I plan to focus on the two major barriers to cycling in Nagpur: infrastructure and safety.
Regarding infrastructure, I am already working as a Collaborator with the Smart City Project Office and Nagpur Municipal Corporation to improve cycling-related infrastructure in the city with cycling lanes, dedicated parking places, and signage on roads to raise awareness on cycling and safety. For improving Safety, I will work with Nagpur Police Department and Traffic Department, and Nagpur Municipal Corporation to improve road conditions, street lighting to improve safety at night and generate awareness amongst drivers about cyclists in the city.
