Alex Baum

Alex grew up and spent most of his adult life in the U.S. (Rochester and New York City) before relocating to the Netherlands. He enjoys exploring cities and the outdoors by foot, bicycle, boat, or train.

Before moving to the Netherlands, he completed a masters in “Sustainable Transportation and Infrastructure Planning”, which honed his interest and skills in the integration of land-use, mobility, and sustainability planning to create liveable, thriving communities.

Prior to that, he co-founded a non-profit experiential education organisation, Hudson River Community Sailing, which teaches math and science to underserved New York City youth through sailing and boat building.

Alex’s work at BYCS focuses on connecting global changemakers and amplifying their work through these connections. His challenge is to ensure that global efforts stay rooted in local complexities and that local perspectives stay connected to global issues and best practices.
