Bicycle Architecture Biennale

The event celebrates the cutting edge and high profile building designs that are facilitating bicycle travel, storage and safety around the world. The biennale aims to reflect how cycling can improve urban living by contributing to a healthier lifestyle and a cleaner environment. And how design solutions can not only meet transit needs, but also inspire and facilitate greater cycling uptake.

The biennale shows the work of international designers, from all corners of the globe. Amongst the selected designs featured in the first BAB are:

  • The West Village Basis Yard apartment complex in Chengdu by ‘Jiakun Architects’, where cyclists can ride from their tenth floor apartments all the way down to the ground
  • SkyCycle, a controversial and largely misunderstood proposal from ‘Foster + Partners’ to build new buildings for cyclists in the airspace above London’s train lines
  • Chongming Bicycle Park, a double helical design for a bicycle museum by ‘JDS Architects’

The first BAB was displayed at Velo-city in Amsterdam and has since gone on tour. If you’d like to host the exhibition, get in touch.

Now, the BAB movie is here to inspire all designers, visionaries, futurists, urban planners and architects to submit their ideas for the next edition of the Bicycle Architecture Biennale. Be there.
